Tik Tok is one of the fastest-growing social media platforms of all time. With 800 million active users, Tik Tok can boost your company’s brand awareness just by posting a 15-second video. The whole purpose of Tik Tok was to post funny videos but now it has turned into more promotion-based content. Tik Tok is a great platform to use for marketing your brand because any user with any number of followers can gain views and likes. Even if you just create an account with zero followers, your video can appear on the for you page and gain the recognition it deserves!

What is Tik Tok and how do you use it?

Tik Tok is a video-sharing app like Vine. Users are encouraged to post funny, informative, or any type of content that they wish to share with their followers, and if their videos are up to par, they will be shared on the for you page. What is a for you page you may ask? A for you page is also known as fyp and it is your feed. There are two sections to the fyp: your ‘Following’ and ‘For You’ tab. You can toggle back and forth between who you follow and their content and your ‘For You’ tab which consists of usually big content creators or viral videos. Your fyp is curated by what videos you like and who you follow on Tik Tok. For example, if you like a lot of videos about dogs, then your fyp will most likely be dog videos. If your Tik Tok video makes the fyp, then your video is most likely to be seen by content creators who don’t follow you which will increase your views, likes, and maybe even followers!

First, create an account and customize it to your brand. You can upload a profile picture, include a link to your website and Instagram, and create a bio. To post something, click the plus button located at the bottom middle of the screen and then start recording by pressing the red button. You can choose between a 15 second, 1 minute, and 3-minute video option. You can add songs, text, and filters on the bottom after or before you record. You can also upload videos from your camera roll and Tik Tok allows you to stitch them together. Once you record something, you can add a caption then upload it to your page. The use of hashtags is important to get your video to be seen by more people, so I recommend adding hashtags to your caption. The main thing about posting on Tik Tok is to be consistent because you want to maintain a following and to increase your amount of engagement with your followers.

Strategies to market on Tik Tok

One of the biggest strategies for promoting your brand on Tik Tok is influencer marketing. There are most likely millions of people on Tik Tok who have a following of over 50k just because it is easy to gain followers on this platform. So, you will have no trouble searching for a micro or macro influencer that can represent your brand well. Like I stated before, using hashtags can boost your content because it shows your video directly to your target audience. If you post a video about cats and use the hashtag #cats, usually people who like cats will find your video. Next, try to create original content. Whether it’s using the trending audios or a video of you speaking about your company, people who enjoy the same interests as your brand will find your page. Tik Tok also has a button where you can promote your videos for cash. Let’s say you aren’t reaching enough viewers; you can select which video you want to promote and how many views you want to reach. Lastly, make sure your content appeals to the younger audience. Tik Tok’s users are mostly made up of gen z and millennials. So, keep it fun!

Tik Tok Algorithm

Once you have mastered the Tik Tok algorithm then your videos should be successful! One tip that you should know is that you will never see the same video twice on your fyp. So, when creating a video, make sure it is entertaining enough that viewers won’t skip it right off the bat. Make sure your videos are high quality, have engaging captions, correct hashtags, and trending audios. Also, look online to see what the best time to post is for your region to achieve maxim engagement. Another key point is to engage with your followers by responding to comments and liking videos. How the algorithm ultimately works is that once your video is live, it goes on the fyp to a small number of people. If it starts to gain recognition, then they send it out to a larger some of people and it keeps going. If your video is interesting enough, the more engagement it will gain.

Every brand should have a Tik Tok account to at least try to promote themselves on different platforms.
